Detective Nate Reigns and Federal Prosecutor Attorney, Skylar Burrell find themselves in a conundrum. One of the things I can always expect and appreciate from an Iris Bolling novel is her characters are just as crafty as the bad guys. Instead of screaming at the hero, “no don’t do that” I find myself cheering them on, like yes, beat them at their own game!
There are so many twists and turns and real life drama in this book. I found myself awed at the way the story unfolds. Ms. Bolling puts you right in the thick of things from the beginning. She does not mince words when spelling out exactly what the villain organization is up to. Seriously this is so close to real life that I am in amazement at her creativity. The story is action-packed and fast-paced. There were scenes where couldn’t read fast enough because I was so anxious to find out what would happen next. We get a glimpse of the hero dealing with the political and workplace politics as well as his family life that is also coming apart at the seams. Just when you think you have it all figured out, another layer is revealed, another element is established and it is all wonderfully mind-boggling.
The Aftermath sets the tone for Backlash to just come through and figuratively blow things up! And the added bonus with the connection of News With Curves and the Society of Intellectual Beings and this provides all the solid makings of a series that will keep you guessing and shocked at every turn. You don’t need to read the other stories but for an enriching reading experience, do yourself a factor and read them all because your mind will be blown!
I was entertained by the characters while at the same time a little disturbed by the horrific mission of the bad guys. The people I thought were in charge were not. The people I thought were innocent were not. I was pulled in several different directions trying to keep up! But Ms. Bolling does not leave us without hope. This series comes with multiple heroes and while the bad guys keep them very busy, it was refreshing to read a story that at least put them on a level playing field and did not let evil win. By no means are they completely destroyed, however it is good to see the good guys put a few dents in their plans.
This is the sort of story that stays with you long after you’ve read it. Days later you will still find yourself asking questions (in a good way) and anticipating the next series installment.

This book was EXPLOSIVE! I loved this book. As I read each chapter it held my attention and had me on the edge of my seat! There are so many moving pieces to this book. So many characters this hope will get what’s coming to them! Grab your copy!

Wow what can I say but this book has everything you want in a book. This book opens your mind to so much. It concludes some things but also begin others. So much to look forward to in the next book. This book was so good, Iris Bolling did her thing, I am definitely ready for more. Nate Reigns and his counterparts are not to be played with.

This story kept me on my toes, just when I thought I knew what was going on another curveball was thrown my way. There’s no way that you can figure out who is friend and who is foe because they’re are so many twists and turns throughout the story, you literally feel like you have whiplash!!!
Iris Bolling is the Queen Of Curveball and she loves dropping little nuggets throughout the story to make you actually think and second guess everything that you thought you knew going into the story.
I honestly can’t wait to read the next book in this wonderful series!!!
